Vaccines
-A vaccine is a weakened or dead virus that is purposely injected into a person to teach their immune system how to fight against a full strength version of the virus
-Many diseases are incurable (meaning they have no medicine or treatment to completely get rid of the disease once you get sick) and cause significant health problems, even death. Vaccines are a way of making sure you don't get sick from the virus in the first place.
-an epidemic or an outbreak is when many people in an area are contracting (getting sick with) a disease
-there is a reemergence of diseases that were once nearly eradicated
-some people cannot have vaccines (too old, too young, immunocompromised, allergic to ingredients..)
-herd immunity is where many of the population are vaccinated to prevent spread of the disease

Atherosclerosis
is a disease in which plaque builds up inside your arteries. Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood to your heart and other parts of your body. Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood. Over time, plaque hardens and narrows your arteries ...so exercise and eat healthy food! |
